Artist Statement

As a multimedia artist working at the intersection of Art, science, technology, and visual media/culture, I use a diverse range of mediums and techniques, including traditional methods and contemporary digital art forms/mediums, to blend different aesthetics for visual storytelling and expression.

As a visual artist, my work is centered around the conceptual framework of storytelling as a way to create unique visual, compositional experiences. Juxtaposing elements from different artistic eras, worlds, mediums, techniques, and genres, I aim to have a visual take on established literature methods, such as poetry, para-fictional stories/narrations, and surreal imaginations.

In this collection of my artwork, "Bernini's Baroque Revival: An Avian Inspiration," I use a para-fictional story/narrative to initiate, guide, and enhance my visual language and aesthetics. One that exists at the intersection of historical, surreal/fantastical, and imaginary worlds:

Bernini's Baroque Revival: An "Avian Inspiration"

In the depths of a quiet night, as the world slumbered under a canopy of stars, the spirit of Gian Lorenzo Bernini, the "master of Baroque sculpture," returned to the world he once shaped with his unparalleled genius. It was the resurgence of a soul who once breathed life into the cold marbles and unyielding stones.

At this moment, Bernini was captivated by the whimsical and fantastic elegance of flamingos, their graceful forms, vibrant pink plumage, and balletic movements, which aligned perfectly with Bernini's desire for dynamic and expressive artistry. The interplay of light and shadow on their feathers reminded Bernini of the dramatic "chiaroscuro" he once masterfully employed in his sculptures.

His return was not a mere reappearance; it was to bring a new inspiration to life—an "Avian Inspiration!" An innovative new collection in which Bernini turned his attention to the exotic and captivating avian creatures: Flamingos— creatures hardy ever depicted in the Baroque era. Blending their fantastical and graceful beauty with the human form, he crafted stunning marble sculptures that seamlessly fuse the surreal elegance of these avian beings with the vitality of the natural world—a rekindling of the Baroque flame that once illuminated the world with its dramatic flair and expressive power.
