Michael Becker

Artist Statement

My work is figurative.

I think of it as like cultivating
the portrait of a flower I've met.

I find reasonable the thought
that others light the world
and speak through things.

I hear flowers mumbling sometimes
and I stand and I stare at them and
my work hopes to reproduce
the time I have with them.

My art is composed from cut
blocks on small canvas boards
and paper with oil and ink and
my poetry seek to animate the
flowers and say something.

Biography

Michael Becker was born in 1980
and he lives in Minnesota with his family.
His previous work is a poetics on metaphor and philosophy
in completion of a PhD in Comparative Literature and
a book of poetry called "In search of pretty flowers."
His work has been featured in Chicago Review and
he works to complete a book of poetry called
"The flowers" and a gif called "The fields."
