NEW - Hammer attack on the painting of Diego Velázquez in the National Gallery, London.
"Just Stop Oil activists" have stormed the National Gallery, using hammers to smash “Rokeby Venus” by Diego Velázquez a 1651 ($90M) painting.
Velázquez's famous « Rokeby Venus » from the National Gallery in London was already slashed once by the feminist Mary Richardson on 10 March 1914 with a butcher's knife. The aim was to protest against the arrest of Emmeline Pankhurst, founder of the Women's Social and Political Union who claimed women's rights and tried to obtain women's suffrage.
