“What you can eat and what you cannot eat.”

Living organisms consume energy sources within the food chain, convert them into new substances, and excrete them, creating Mother Nature's huge energy flow. Humans are also a part of this nature, but humans consider themselves to be special beings separated from nature or beings who must make efforts to integrate with nature, and they also dismiss the by-products they produce as foreign substances that cannot be digested in the natural ecosystem. Through this exhibition, the artist explores the source of human emotions such as superiority and guilt by crossing inside and outside the forbidden realm of what cannot be eaten or eaten, and questions the meaning of human existence in Mother Nature from the fundamental act of living things called ‘eating’. 아트스페이스 보안여관 1942에서 신재은 작가의 새로운 전시 "GAIA-소화계"를 선보입니다.

“무엇을 먹을 수 있고 무엇을 먹을 수 없는가.”

생명체는 먹이사슬 안에서 에너지원을 섭취하여 새로운 물질로 전환시키고 배출하면서 대자연의 거대한 에너지 흐름을 만들어 냅니다. 인간 역시 이러한 자연의 일부이지만 인간은 스스로를 자연과 분리되어 있는 특별한 존재 혹은 자연과 융화되기 위해 노력해야하는 존재라 여기면서 자신이 배출한 부산물 또한 자연 생태계에서 소화될 수 없는 이물질로 치부하곤 합니다. 작가는 본 전시를 통해 먹을 수 없고 먹힐 수 없는 금단의 영역 안과 밖을 넘나들며 우월감이나 죄책감 같은 인간 감정의 근원을 살펴보고 ‘먹기’라는 생명체의 근본적인 행위로부터 대자연 속 인간 존재의 의의를 질문합니다.
